After weeks of training, runners took to the boards April 16th for Runapalooza, locally sponsored race events in Asbury Park, NJ, to tackle multiple running distances of both individual and relay races, all for a great cause. Over 2,400 runners spanned miles of New Jersey’s coast, with the furthest runners venturing as far as Seaside, NJ to begin the full marathon!
Annual Runapalooza Hits Asbury Park
The overall winner of the full marathon completed the course as an individual rather than a relay and is a proud WoW member! Dave G. is not only a Jersey Strong runner, he taught us what it means to be Jersey Strong in all facets of life.
“I was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago, so it’s easy to just say, ‘Well, I have this ailment’, and throw in the towel. But Jersey Strong to me is the atmosphere, when you walk into your favorite instructors class, you channel and build off their energy,” says Dave.
Besides just his regular race training, he attributes his increase in speed over time to X-Lab classes, HiiT and Bootcamp being his favorites. Dave definitely finished the race strong by channeling that energy and putting his training in X-Labs to good use.
“When I was in this race, there was a guy ahead of me for 25 miles, and I saw him in sight and I was able to kind of pick him off. I feel like that comes from all the high intensity interval training and I was kind of able to pull out the sprint after 25 miles,” Dave told us of his marathon finish.
Runapalooza was a day enjoyed by runners and spectators alike, all coming together for a great cause. Proceeds of race registrations benefit the Jersey Shore Dream Center and Special Olympics of New Jersey. We are so proud to have been part of a weekend that included participants who put in the hard work to complete their goals, as well as helped other causes along the way! Thank you to all of the Jersey Strong participants, spectators, volunteers, and entire Runapalooza team that made the day such a success.
